Aquarelle Tuesdays 2 - 4.30 with Marina Kulik

'Tough Chick' by Agnès

The Aquarellistas are incredibly busy creating high-quality work for our exhibition end of May in the old mairie in Valbonne! After last year's succes we have decided to repeat our '50 for 50' concept, which means that all our aquarelles are framed in the same black or white 20x20 cm frames, and all cost 50€. How's that for attractive pricing!
We will certainly inform you and give you little pre-views later - so Watch this space. But despite all the hard work, there was still time left over to work on other paintings - shown above and below...

Aquarelle on Tuesdays from 2 - 4.30, with Marina Kulik

...and what a 'Zen' afternoon it was! We created splendid work, and made plans for our next expo, sipping tisane and listening to the radio. My suggestion was for strong contrasts of colour with white, and that worked out well for everybody! White is so important in watercolours, and this post proves that once more... As always, everybody painted in their own style, check it out below:

Agnes did a great job on this lady with a hat...

She liked the subject and did another one - not finished and still wet on picture...

Anna-Karin used squares and rectangles of colour on top of the masking fluid. With intriguing effect!

Cathie created two paintings - both so well done! This one serious...

...the other one a happy kiss from a little boy!

Edith used super bright colours and achieved a strong expression

No, this is not a photograph, this is Edith's other painting...

And last but not least Liz's guy, very graphic!!

The second Palette Knife Workshop by Brenda Malley

As there was such a demand for Brenda Malley's Palette Knife Workshop, she ran the course again on the 14th March.
Again she first demonstrated the technique, producing the beautiful first painting in under an hour.

Then Chris, Tatiana, Terese, Lisbeth, Avril, Anne-Francoise, Christiane, Anne-Marie and Anton produced stunning results in just 2 or 3 hours. Brenda is willing to lead an outdoor workshop by the sea so keep watching the website for details.

Aquarelle, Tuesdays from 2 - 4.30 pm, with Marina Kulik

Anna-Karin

Last week I proposed 'Patterns' as the subject for a nice, zen aquarellista afternoon. Cathie and Liz both started fabulous paintings, but both of them were not yet even halfway when I took the pictures, so we keep them for later!
Anna Karin brought apples and tulips - and three of us worked on them - you can see them from 3 different points of view - in all respects, and all three are great!

Constanza

 Nusch

Anna-Karin's lovely early spring tulips, she's so good at this!

Nusch's version; I especially love the vase, so transparent, so watery, such a beautiful green!

Edith felt like animal painting so she created this gorgeous lion

More was done, we are preparing for another '50 paintings for 50€' exhibition after last years' success and lots of beautiful little jewels are seeing the light. They will be featured in another post.

Aquarelle Watercolours - Tuesdays from 2 - 4.30 with Marina Kulik

Agnès created a wonderful mimosa-impression, in a very experimental way

Spring is here - smell the Mimosa

There's always something special happening with the Aquarellistas of the Hangar. Last week we were celebrating spring with a lovely bottle of champagne, brought by Örjan! We're still not sure if that was the reason behind the excellent work that was done - but excellent it was! We worked on all kinds of projects, but everyone gave 'Mimosa' at least one try... and that's what we're showing here today...
Look for yourself how great some of this stuff is...

...a sea of Mimosa by Edith...
...and her second version, with the accent on the fluffyness...
A daring version by Liz. Painted from nature, so lively! wel done!!
Above and below, two versions by Anna-Karin, also from nature, very spontaneous and 'springy'...

Orjan brought a big bunch of mimosa from his garden and used it to create this expressionist version. The light and character are so well done. Good work!
Constanza created a minimalistic version and again it really worked out for her! The light, the blue sky and the different yellow balls together form such a lovely summery combination!
Sandra also painted from the real flowers - she also worked on other projects and didn't finish this one. She was in doubt about the result, I think it is lovely and lively and definitely worth finishing!

Aquarelle Watercolours - Tuesdays 2 - 4.30pm with Marina Kulik

Nusch finished her antique mask. It is stunning!

Last Tuesday the Aquarellistas didn't use a common theme to work on, so what you see here is a wide variety of subjects... We had a wonderful time painting  oranges in a bowl brought by Anna-Karin, a sphere, animals and flowers!

Anna-Karin's Ikea bowl of oranges. not finished but excellent subtle suggestion of glass!

Constanza's Matisse-style oranges, with flattened perspective, showing more

the recognisable style of Sandra - with fantastic leaves and strong shadow (and lovely detail on one orange)

Liz had great fun painting this sphere. I absolutely love it!

For a future project, Edith already tried her hand on a little bright-red bear-toy

Orjan painted his green-eyed dog in Jean Haines-style.
He is really getting there, and the paint works it's magic...!

Agnès worked on this mimosa - in a very clever way: she painted the paper yellow, then used cotton tips with masking fluid to create little circles with a 'fluffy' outline. After that she added blue and other colours, and intricate leaves to express the true character of the flowers. you can almost smell them.
'Mimosa' will be next time's subject! We're going to experiment with the ways to paint these intricate flowers!
