The third and last day of our Hangar trip brought us to the Pont de Gard. To everyone this was a mesmerizing experience. That old Roman Aqueduct is so real, so ancient, and you can somehow feel all the effort and intelligence of the old Romans. It was breathtaking to all of us, artists and partners alike. And impressive work was done, you will see it in the video because I did not take enough pictures, sorry! Anyway, to wrap it up - the trip was a huge success, it was convivial, connected, creative and do these people have talent!! We enjoyed it big time and will certainly do it again next year!
The second day of our Hangar trip, we spent in beautiful Uzès, a town with much to offer in terms of architecture, quaint streets, a fabulous market and wonderful restaurants. We started in and around the Botanical Garden, drawing the little streets, or plants and trees with the exercise of 'having something big in the foreground' for extra perspective. After a perfect lunch we continued painting in the old centre, with the exercise to use the bright colours of our gift sets. Everyone worked hard and concentrated, despite the heat! We did the line up in the hotel, and then had a truly great dinner! You can see all that in the second video by Marina T!
On 13, 14 and 15 June, a group of enthusiastic Hangar members were in the beautiful and inspiring department the Gard, to draw and paint together. Teachers Marina Teding van Berkhout and Marina Kulik guided the artists and advised them where necessary.
This blog post is about the first day, Friday the 13th, when we arrived in Saint Remy de Provence and drew and painted in the 'Maison de Santé' where Vincent van Gogh was treated for some time. It was a splendid place, with a museum with all the original attributes from the time van Gogh stayed there, and breathtaking gardens (with lavender!), as well as a monastery, where it was actually cool despite the 32°C outside... We all found good spots and were very much inspired. Check it out for yourself by clicking this link:
Do you know why the Hangar is buzzing with energy on the Monday mornings - although the steel door is firmly closed! t is a well kept secret for most, but the artists in the area know - there is a Monday Morning Hangar Life Model Session.
This class (for lack of a better word) attracts serious artists, because
they know life drawing is very good for the artistic part of their
brain! Would it be something for you? To train your eye-hand
coordination, observation skills, learn tricks to quickly measure, learn
to recognise foreshortening and perspective.
A very good extra is that you will overcome your shy-ness and other
restrictions in studying and really seeing a shape, and if you can draw a
naked male or female person, a vase or sky line or tree tops will not
really be a challenge any more. This class takes place every other Monday
morning. To know what we are going to do & which nude we have,
please subscribe (without obligation) to the mailing list, you will
receive an invitation the Friday before.
The English version of our new website is up and running. We have decided to integrate the Blog into the website, so we will no longer be posting new articles here. We will keep this site up and running for those who want to find an older post.
On Wednesday 24 July, an enthusiastic group of drawers and painters drove together to Auribeau, to paint that absolutely gorgeous medieval village. It was warm, but there were plenty of spots with a great view and enough shadow. After finding the best places, the group started with small drawings of different views.
Most worked with felt pen, but also pencils, bic pen and with colour pencils! Also 1 oil painter (Bev)
Around 12h30 we stopped for a spot of lunch! Ina had booked a table for the group in the restaurant 'Moulin du Sault' and it didn't disappoint!
We had a fantastic meal, even did some sketching there, and were back in time for a next round of drawing - and painting!
The results of the afternoon session were again wonderful!
After the line up,with mots of praise for all the artists, because they had done a very good job, some of us sat down to get a bit of fluid in that bod' after such a long hot day, and the rest drove back home, feeling good and happy after a creative day in a fabulous place.
