Live drawing - Monday Mornings 10 - 12 with Marina Kulik

We've resumed the live sessions!

Last Monday Marie-Jo posed for us. She is a very beautiful and inspiring model and we took the time to get used to drawing again, after a long break. 

The live drawing classes are fun, yet very intensive, so everyone really needs the coffee (tea) & cookies break in the middle, and around 12 when we finish we're always super tired - but content. It is so good for your brain - your eye-hand coordination, your overall ability to observe and then to put that observation on paper the way you mean to! Very rewarding. Here are pictures I took with my phone of some of the drawings that were made. You can see that all have their own style and interpreteation. Also you can see what the pose was, and that we were standing around Marie-Jo, so all had our different perspectives...

Monday 19 January we'll have a live model session again, this time with Brigitte. We will start with a warming up, then a bit of theory - and than a couple of longer, not too complicated poses. If you are interested to give this 'live drawing' a try, the 19th could be a good start for you! Drop me a mail if you need more info...

NEW YEAR'S RECEPTION 2015

Sunday from 5-7pm we had a very convivial and well-visited new Years' reception in the Hangar.

Our President, Ton van Schijndel, introduced the new year, with a moment to think about Charlie Hebdo. After that he presented the program for the coming time, with highlights the Launch of the Hangar book end of March, the Spring trip in May and the big Expo, for all, in Théoule in September...

KULIK & DEVAS: EXPO in La Roquette

Until 30 January, Patience Marriott (artist name DEVAS) and Marina Kulik exhibit in the Mairie of La Roquette.

 

The expo is 'ENTREE LIBRE' and open every workday between 8am and 4pm!!

The vernissage took place last Thursday evening. It was excellent and well visited, many authorities of La Roquette and surrounding communities were there - as well as friends, journalists, architects and decoration firms. And also a lot of Hangar folks!!

With all who were present we commemorated and paid our respects in relation with the Charlie Hebdo-killings in Paris which was beautiful. We had great chats, in French and English and made a lot of new contacts. Patience's sculptures and my paintings go really well together and we both received a lot of praise!

 

Patience shows her sculptures, bronzes and terre cuite, I put up my 'other side' - the latest version of the acrylic 'Fresque'  'Ever Evolving work of art' (now over 6 meters in total and existing of 35 canvases...) Nice Matin has written and will write extensively about the both of us!

Monday January 5th, Michelle de Laat was so kind to open  The Hangar  for painting, while Pim was ill. He will be back soon to start a New Year of new inspiration and creativity.
We ended , being only 2 of us, but had great fun and 'NEW' results:

Anna-Karin's optical illusion is finished!

Last Tuesday was the last session of the year... It was extra-zen, not a very big group, Agnès made yummie lemon cakes with even yummier icing, we had lots of verveine tea and we played relaxing music... Elia B, Agnès and Constanza finished their 'Hands', they all look brilliant!

 Liz started work on the next 'Village in the South' - Roussillon... This is the basic wash, very bright orange - and believe it or not, the colours of that village are not far from this! Also the cubic shapes are already visible...

 Yves also painted the autumn-view from his house - from the top of his head! Well done!

Monday - Live Model drawing with Marina

The last live session in 2014! We drew Brigitte in 2 long poses, it was great and everyone worked hard and motivated!

NB: 

After the holidays, we continue with live model sessions EVERY WEEK, alternating starters (with a theory bit and uncomplicated poses, portraits, hands and feet etc) and advanced.

Mail Marina if you want to be on the mailinglist, so you know what's on! As soon as the weather is good enough to draw outside, Pim resumes his part of the drawing Mondays again.

Thursday Sculpture Class

Every Thursday a regular bunch of us come to the Hangar to do sculpture with Christie. During the school holidays - occasionally some of the students bring along the youngsters in the family - that is, if there aren't too many other artists working. It's always fun to have young people around because they work on totally different things from everyone else. The first 3 pieces of artwork are from 3 of the youngsters.

The theme this term has been animals. Hanne has chosen cats. Below is one of her works made in white - high fire - clay.

Dom continues to work on his tools. This tme he had tools in white clay which he painted before firing, using a black slip with vinegar.

Tracy has a series of abstracts in black clay - here is the latest addition

The black clay starts out brown when we work with it. It is a clay that contains quite a lot of grog - so it will never give a smooth surface. It fires well and goes completely black when fired at 1200 C.
