Aquarelle Tuesday 2pm

Cathie & Candy

Last week I couldn't join the aquarellistas and Cathie van der Stel took over the organisation. Although I wasn't there, from the work I gather that the theme involved candy...
Brigitte Jansen's plastic bag of sweets - the candy is nice and very round and shiny, with highlights

Aquarelle Tuesday 5 June, 2 - 4.30pm

Onions & Irises, Volume & a Falcon

The 5th of June was the first Tuesday this year that we all agreed that it was better outside than inside... We were sitting underneath a roof of fresh green leaves from the trees on the Hangar terrain, the sun was hot and bright but we didn't feel it, it was just right, not too cool not too hot! And the tea was great as always. The weather inspired many to work on new subjects - while others were working on the cover of Chris France's new book. This means that we don't have much to show for yet, as the book cover needs to be judged and therefore is still top secret and most of the new subjects are not yet in a stage that we would like to show  it to you! They will be the 'before and after' images for next week...
However - there is one that, although not finished, is already looking mighty fine:

Onions & garlic by Brigitte Jansen

Georgie worked on a commission, a friend who saw the iris she had painted last week for mothersday, immediately commissioned her for a 'male' version... Here's the result:
Fathers' Day Iris by Georgina Hole

There was only one starter present - Rose-Marie. She worked on her volume exercise and discovered the power of shadow, and the difference between a smooth and hard transition (as in the blue resp. yellow stripes). Also the shadows she put underneath the whole object give it a clear volume. Well done and that's enough, on to the spheres...

The stunning picture of a falcon is painted by Edith. She created it as a gift for her son's birthday and it is really very well done! You can appreciate the detail even more if you enlarge the picture (by clicking on it...)

Aquarelle Tuesday from 2 - 4.30pm

Colourful Parasols
Last week Tuesday it was a glorious day and despite the 'changing light' (because the sun moves) Georgie, Liz and Agnes did their painting outside (and thoroughly enjoyed it).
The theme du jour was 'parasols' once more and Georgie worked hard on hers:
Georgina Hole's finished parasols
a transparent aquarelle with lots of permanent rose and 'homemade' violet...

Mieke van Papen worked on these beauties,
the green parasol is finished and like Georgie's it is a true aquarelle, poetic and light.

This complicated inside of a parasol by Lesley Bufton isn't finished
but already interesting, graphic and super well done!

The other parasols will be shown next week - there was also a lot of activity on our calendar - the months April, May and December are finished, and July, August and October are halfway - looking great!!
And there is another project we are slowly and surely progressing with: our cookbook...

Lesley tweaked her tomato sauce recipe and created this perfect picture

Cathie van der Stel has experimented with gorgeous colour combinations and salt
and she ended up with truffles!

Aquarelle Tuesday

Colourful Creations
In our aquarelle session of last week we worked around two themes (parasols and recipes for our Aquerellista cookbook), we finished ongoing projects, proceeded with the calendar and we welcomed two new girls, Gaby and Rose-Marie! A busy and productive afternoon - and everything was about 'colour'! The theme du jour was 'Parasols'. I brought colourful pictures (and real ones - but forgot to show them) and the results were in one word great!
Agnes McLaughlin -original as always- used her own input, one picture for the colours and one for the subject, and painted these lovely little girls with parasols. (Love their little feet!!)

Georgie Hole hasn't finished hers but it is already so good!!
Lesley started a very difficult construction of a beautiful parasol, more about that next time and Cathie worked on these lovely old fashioned ones:

...and finished this STUNNING basket with pinecones.

Edith Alborni finished her  'mysterious girl with peacock feather'. Isn't is gorgeous?!

In the meantime, work on our recipes goes on. Lesley Bufton works on her tomato sauce ingredients. She experimented with salt on the orange worktop but washed it out again as she wasn't happy with the result. Looks like it might be finished this week!
Lesley Bufton's tomato sauce ingredients. Just some very small adjustments needed and then it's good to go (into our cookbook). The golden bottletop is very well done by the way!
Agnes McLaughlin made the first breakfast illustration for the cookbook. Lots of fun in this as usual. The pinapple originally was a cookie, also note the Porridge bowl and all the handy signs ... The tablecloth with distorted perspective contrasts so nicely with the elegant china! And the silver is very well done...

Model drawing by candle light...

Last Monday we had an extra Model Drawing session because Pim, though on the mend, is not yet working 100%. We used the time to do an experiment that actually worked out so well that we are going to repeat it coming Monday - drawing by candle light... The challenge is that not only you see less of what you are doing, you see also much less of the model. But what you see is touched by a warm and soft light... And everyone was much more able to concentrate and see and draw 'the light'. The results? Poetic! and very good:

Tuesday Afternoon Aquarelle Watercolours - Marina

Aquarellista Zen Afternoon

Anna-Karin Fast painted the basis of this aquarelle a couple of years ago, wasn't happy with it and put it away... Last week she brought it and actually did some wonderful work on it! Mainly on the left side...

Liz Douglas has now added a background and some details and made her Carnival masks even more stunning...

Edith Alborni is almost finished with her last carnival picture, very well done!

The coming weeks we will do a bit of research on the subject of 'feathers'. Georgina Hole already worked on it this is her lovely version of a wavy blue austrich feather

Mieke van Papen started on the same project and created these two soft and subtle feathers. Wonderful work!

Graphical Nudes in Aquarelle

Cathie van der Stel
The aquarellistas embarked on a challenge last week that is now halfway and looks interesting as well as totally beautiful! We worked from sixties pictures of women with light and shadow projected on their naked bodies... Here are the first results... amazing don't you think!
Agnes McLaughlin

Anna-Karin Fast

Edith Alborni

Liz Douglas

Mieke van Papen

Brigitte Jansen

Georgina Hole worked on one too but didn't get so far because she also finished her Parrots:

Lies Timmermans returned from Switzerland (with the sun) and started with these lovebirds to get back into the groove! She'll join in on the graphic project tomorrow...
And last but not least Liz Douglas finished her view on Plascassier
