Hangar Aquarellistas Top Act during "Route des Arts"

The Route des Arts is an initiative of the 'Pôle Touristique'  in our area, to promote the arts and the artists with all the member-cities and -villages, in several ways - open ateliers, animations, concours and exhibitions of local artists. La Roquette is this years' host village - and the opening ceremony will be in the "Maison des Associations" in La Roquette... And then:

This weekend, on 9 and 10 July, the Aquarellistas of the Hangar (Liz Douglas, Sandra Seymour-Dale, Carol Fischer, Tricia Bennett, Edith Alborni, Brenda Moorhouse, Patience Devas, Sylvie Morlière, Cathie van der Stel and Marina Kulik) fill the Maison des Associations with their very best beautiful watercolours!
On Saturday from 12.30 and Sunday from 10am we will be delighted to see you and show and explain our work!

It will be a colourful and interesting combination of styles, with several themes and subjects - but bound visually by that attractive and poetic transparency of the aquarelle paint!

Place José Thomas

EXHIBITION AQUARELLISTES DE VALBONNE

It is time again for the yearly exhibition of Les Aquarellistes de Valbonne, in the Salle St Esprit (next to the church) in Valbonne.

A great opportunity to see new, never exhibited, original watercolours of Hangar members Cathie van der Stel, Sandra Seymour-Dale and Marina Kulik!!

The theme of the exhibition is 'Twins'  - or 'DUO' in French.
And all the newly made work refers to that subject...

All watercolours are for sale, the prices are very reasonable, so if you are looking for something poetic to upgrade a room, don't hesitate to pass by, you won't be disappointed *)!

The exhibition starts Monday 15 June and is open every day from 3 - 7pm, on Friday and in the weekend also from 10am - 1pm.
It finishes the 25th of June...

We will organise informal drinks and personal tours around the watercolours during our 'permanences' and as soon as we have that planned we will inform you, so watch this space!

*) We also offer luxury postcards and unframed work.

EXPO Les Artistes des Pays-Bas: RECOMMENDED

VERY BEAUTIFUL EXHIBITION. OPEN UNTIL SUNDAY 12 OCTOBER
Try to visit this one, I recommend it, because it is truly great to see all that diversity and quality artwork. And by the way, things are moving, there is so much sold already! Some of the dutch Hangar students are exhibiting, but also teachers Nelly, Pim and yours truly have work there!! It is interesting to see that the three of us clearly have similarities in the sizes and the importance of colour in our paintings, yet our works are so different!

Click on the pictures for a closer view

Nelly's two paintings - large sizes, very symbolic. The one on the right (Sacrifice au dieu) shows an African woman with two dolls between her breasts. This refers to an African tradition, to give a woman who lost a child a doll, that she has to take care of (feed, clean, dress) for at least 6 weeks. This woman lost twins. And there is so much more in the painting that is open to interpretation - you can look at it for hours and it makes you think...

Pim has two abstracts, large size, colourful and with shapes that cannot really be defined or understood. The titles are 1 and 2 so it is completely open for everyones interpretation. Just stand in front of it and see what it does to you. Very interesting!

Marina (yours truly) is a bit in between: I am still on a path to somewhere I don't yet quite know - researching, trying out and totally enjoying the ride - as you will be able to see from my paintings!! I will show it on my facebook page and website, and if you visit I am sure you will see it, as it is very hard to miss! ☺

***Note that all of the above is my interpretation - feel free to leave your opinions and criticism in the comments section!!

EXHIBITION AQUARELLES IN CHATEAU DES DEMOISELLES

Until 14 January 2015, the watercolours of the Aquarellista group will be on display in the lovely Chateau des Demoiselles! We did our best to create an interesting combination of small and larger works.
Liz and Tricia putting up paintings

Chateau des Demoiselles is in La Motte in the Var, a one-hour drive from the Hangar. We can recommend a visit, a walk through the vineyards and a winetasting there! It is really worthwhile - and their wines are excellent! They are also enthusiastic promotors of art, that's why they organise exhibitions on a regular basis.

Visit their site for more information: http://www.chateaudesdemoiselles.com/

We would love to see you on our opening night, Friday 26 September, from 6 - 8 pm.
A wonderful opportunity to check out our artwork, have some wonderful nibbles and last but not least sample the quality wines of the chateau!

The Exhibitors are:
Agnès McLaughlin, Anna-Karin Fast, Beverly Ellsley, Cathie van der Stel, Constanza Rock, Elia B., Liz Douglas, Marina Kulik, Mieke van Papen, Orjan Rinnert, Pauline Bull, Sandra Seymour-Dale and Tricia Bennett!

The Aquarellista Expo '50x50' has taken off!

On Friday 23 May our small format expo finally opened! The Thursday before we put the artwork up, 50 aquarelles in tasteful black and white wooden frames, of 20x20 centimeters. We did it all in such a good mood, it was clear to see how well we function as a group! Everybody assumed some tasks and we were done pretty quickly... Afterwards we were all excited by how good it looked!

And then we were ready for the visitors...

They slowly started to come in, until the vernissage started - that was when we really had a full house and sold the first 8 pictures, as well as a lot of our 'cocktail' postcard sets...

We closed the doors around 8pm and went for a nice dinner to celebrate...

We have decided to open the doors for the public on Thursday (29 May) from 2 - 5pm, Friday 30 May from 10 am - 5pm, and Sunday all day, with cocktails and nibbles from 3pm.
If you prefer another day to visit - let us know, we are most willing to open up if we know someone's interested!

Aquarelle - Tuesdays 2 -- 4.30pm with Marina Kulik

 Edith

In the meantime in our Aquarellista group so much is happening!
We are preparing for our exhibition in Valbonne, creating our 20x20 paintings, in total 50 of them, we're also creating postcards - and for our 'Affiche' we are in the proces of making so-called 'selfies'! We take pictures of ourselves (ok, and of each other) and then paint them in a very contrasty way. You should try it for yourself, it is great fun! and here's the first half of the group, the next half - eh, next week! The people who are not here right now are painted by volunteers...

 Pauline

 Sandra (crazy woman!)
