Aquarelle Tuesdays 2 - 4.30 with Marina - 1

Most of the group were working on the Christmas & New Years' cards, but not all! Avril and Fabienne worked on the next exercise, a painting built up in several layers, with planning needed! They tried out masking fluid for the stars (or first snow as we decided when they were a bit on the big and regulare side for stars). But it looks good!! Well done you two...

Anna-Karin's doodle in the last 5 minutes - meeting in the nudist camp?

Mieke worked on a still life with snail shells in a glass jar...

...and so did Cathie...

Sandra's lovely guy in the sun is coming along really well!!!

Aquarelle on Tuesdays from 2 - 4.30pm with Marina Kulik

Portraits, Spheres and the latest abstracts
in watercolours
 Elia B.

Portraits still seem to be everyones favourite subject - even when they are far away from us like Orjan (who's still in Sweden but misses us big time and will return soon). The reason might be that you are so good at them!

The starters are working on the spheres:

Avril is really getting it, I'm proud!

Also, there was more to experiment with the 'Depth' subject Anna Karin taught - and more fun splashing, with darker foregrounds in big brush strokes happened...

 Crazy Creatures
Falling leaves by Christiane. I love it!

The beginning of a very interesting piece by Avril.
The leaves are real, she spattered paint on them and will continue tomorrow...

Agnes experimented with colours and a 'stained glass' approach, where the empty space is seen as an object. Very interesting - and worth persuing!
This try-out certainly has something very attractrive...

And last but by no means least, Cathie finished her 'Rusty Lock' and made it so interesting with that mysterious half-open door...

Tomorrow: Storm and Thunder expected! We will be cozy and warm in the Hangar, sipping tisane and listening to Adèle or Mozart - and maybe even paint a bit ha ha!

EXHIBITION AQUARELLES IN CHATEAU DES DEMOISELLES

Until 14 January 2015, the watercolours of the Aquarellista group will be on display in the lovely Chateau des Demoiselles! We did our best to create an interesting combination of small and larger works.
Liz and Tricia putting up paintings

Chateau des Demoiselles is in La Motte in the Var, a one-hour drive from the Hangar. We can recommend a visit, a walk through the vineyards and a winetasting there! It is really worthwhile - and their wines are excellent! They are also enthusiastic promotors of art, that's why they organise exhibitions on a regular basis.

Visit their site for more information: http://www.chateaudesdemoiselles.com/

We would love to see you on our opening night, Friday 26 September, from 6 - 8 pm.
A wonderful opportunity to check out our artwork, have some wonderful nibbles and last but not least sample the quality wines of the chateau!

The Exhibitors are:
Agnès McLaughlin, Anna-Karin Fast, Beverly Ellsley, Cathie van der Stel, Constanza Rock, Elia B., Liz Douglas, Marina Kulik, Mieke van Papen, Orjan Rinnert, Pauline Bull, Sandra Seymour-Dale and Tricia Bennett!

Aquarelle Tuesdays 2 - 4.30pm with Marina Kulik

Last weeks number one cute is Elia's Snow Fox pup. Melt...

And next, three potentials for our expo in Chateau des Demoiselles by Bev:

 Happy couple on the beach

 Clown fish

Seagulls

Unfinished but already gorgeous cork-work by Cathie

Shiny Cina by Liz

Our new mate Maryse, who has painted before but never in watercolours, worked quickly through the exercises and then produced this wonderful abstract - in her favourite colours...

Tricia created a very lively and light bunch of flowers, with the help of salt, paint and a lot of water...

And in the meantime in Sweden... Orjan is working with watercolours as well, thinking of us - and now has his illustration published in the newspaper:

Aquarelle - Tuesdays from 2 - 4.30 with Marina Kulik

Last session before the summer break!
We were only with a small group, many have already left for their holidays, one of them Orjan, who writes:
'Here in Sweden we have an unusually hot summer. On my summer island in the Baltic, I completed a week's workshop with my painting friends. We were 13 people (!) And finished with a vernissage and opening party. 17 paintings sold out of 38 produced. Not so bad?

Reportage Painting by Orjan - looks like a real good summer over there!!

The Tuesday afternoon will be very quiet all of August - we are also enjoying the sun - and of course thinking about our show in Chateau des Demoiselles in September...
NB: Nelly's oil group on Tuesday morning will continue in August!

Aquarelle Tuesdays 2 - 4.30 with Marina Kulik

Gonnie's dog by Örjan

Again we enjoyed the watercolour session with a small group, sipping champagne (brought in by Orjan who's going on summer retreat in Sweden), Agnès's gorgeous chocolates, music and lots of fun with several of our watery projects.

The finished 'Girl with flower hat', also by Orjan, what a delightful portrait!

We are creating a couple of paintings for our show - as a group, which means that everyone paints a piece and the pieces together form a picture. We have to compare shapes and colours and make sure the parts fit, and we can tell you that it's not easy! But fun for sure...
One is almost finished and we started a new one this week. An ornament. It's going to be so beautiful! More about it in the coming posts, but here is the first version:

Aquarelle, Tuesday afternoons from 2 - 4.30pm with Marina Kulik

Fantastic Faces

The small group of Aquarellistas that worked last Tuesday, has mainly been busy with our expo in May. We will surely showcase that work in a later stage, but today the spotlight is on two other paintings, created by Nusch and Orjan. They both worked from 'real' full colour photos, not black-and-white ones. They had to make the decision where the light (the white) would be and leave that space unpainted, using masking fluid. And as you can see it worked out very, very well!

'Putting on make up'  by Nusch. Love it!!!

'Girl with flower hat' by Örjan.

This one by Orjan is not yet completely finished, the masking fluid is still on - but I couldn't help myself, it is so wonderful already! Next week the finished painting...

Coming Tuesday 'same old same old', we will work on projects for our exhibition, sip tea and listen to music with a warm sun on our heads or in the shade of the fresh leaves on the trees! I'm jealous of myself, that's how great it feels to live here in the South of France...

Aquarelle Tuesdays 2 - 4.30 with Marina Kulik

'Tough Chick' by Agnès

The Aquarellistas are incredibly busy creating high-quality work for our exhibition end of May in the old mairie in Valbonne! After last year's succes we have decided to repeat our '50 for 50' concept, which means that all our aquarelles are framed in the same black or white 20x20 cm frames, and all cost 50€. How's that for attractive pricing!
We will certainly inform you and give you little pre-views later - so Watch this space. But despite all the hard work, there was still time left over to work on other paintings - shown above and below...
