Aquarelle on Tuesday 2pm - 4.30pm with Marina

It rained and rained but nobody of the Aquarellistas noticed: we were painting portraits! It is definitely a subject everybody likes - check out the results of Tuesday the 14th!
 Wise Woman by Christine

Karen - a portrait with scarf (in progress) by Cathie

Beauty in progress by Edith

Anna-Karin's grand daughter

'Steve' by Brenda (He could be Paul McCartney's twin bro do you agree?)

 'Nigel' by Sandra Seymour-Dale

Two versions of Christiane's grand daughter - first a thorough practice round in black and white and then the coloured version! Way to go & well done!

Fabulous painting by Nusch inspired by John Singer Sargent

And another gorgeous one by Pauline inspired by Roger Oncoy

Vicky started a portrait of her son - by no means finished but getting there...she's joining Cathie and my 'One-hair-brush-club ☺

Lush portrait of classic beauty with transparant dress by Agnès

Fabienne worked on her wash-and-then-add-volume-exercise and did a terrific job!

And Anna-Karin did 2 more portraits, this time of apples, a subject she's very good at and she has lots of commissions for...
And talking about Anna-Karin, on Tuesday 21 October, she will tell us all about the workshop she followed in Bordeaux. It is going to be very interesting! Watch this space for pictures and results!

More portraits...
Last Tuesday the Aquarellista Group proceeded with the portrait project, this time with mostly 'loved ones'. Difficult because you are extra critical on yourself if you know your subject really well... But as always, the results were impressive and in some cases really interesting!

 Work in progress by Anna-Karin
(Sorry! the camera was still on black and white when I took this)
Brenda with another touching portrait - shame that the photo doesn't do it justice

 Christiane's beautiful babygirl grand daughter.
A touch to the eyes and she's ready - for the coloured version

Christine's impressive portrait, in progress - more next week!

Curious little girl by Constanza (a little work needed on the eyes and then it will be superrr!)

Clever little rascal! By birthday girl Edith

Beauty in a veil - fantastic work by Liz

Nusch is back! - she created this wonderful contrasty watercolour inspired by Roger Oncoy

Sandra's Greek god - with poetic circle... intriguing painting! Love the shoulder...

Vicky's portrait, fantastic style!!

In the meantime Avril worked hard on her starters exercises - I love what she did sofar!

And last but not least, Cathie, just back from a short trip to the Carib, worked on one of her rusty still lifes (in progress, focal point coming up) already soo good and interesting!

Aquarelle Tuesdays 2 - 4.30pm with Marina

A nice set of clouds by Anna-Karin

Last Tuesday we had an old fashioned 'class'... With the help of several youtube movies (just google "How to paint clouds with watercolours") we managed an impressive number of great clouds - check some of 'em out here:
(and forgive me if I get the names wrong: they're all equally good, I couldn't really recognise the styles...)

Clouds & birds also by Anna-Karin

Brenda's set with different weather types - very expressive!

 Happy Caribbean summerclouds by Cathie

Edith

 Constanza

Liz' clouds over a misty village

Nusch's set of clouds, much improved! well done...

Basic tricks: Wet your paper to get the colours flowing, make enough paint before you start, (just the primaries are necessary) make it darker than you think it should be (as it dries up lighter) and use kitchenpaper or a dry flat brush for the cloud shapes. Lots of variations and additions are of course possible!

Aquarelle Tuesdays 2 - 4.30pm with Marina

Last Tuesday we built a 'Pim-like' still life. Quite a challenge, with the white stuff - but if you look carefully you can see that there is no white in the picture at all!

Beverly got it so right, especially the warm light! Excellent job...
Note that the flowers were added to the still life after I made the photo...
And that she was sitting (lower viewpoint)
The flowers were a gift of Anna-Karin, beautiful white peonies.
She painted two of them in her o-so-recognisable subtle style!

Nusch's version is very attractive - especially with the transparent vase!

There were also other flowers, Edith painted one arum 'full face'

Liz finished her happy bike - doesn't it look fabulous!

And this is what Nusch paints when there is another half hour to go... do these birds have passion!

The Aquarellista Expo '50x50' has taken off!

On Friday 23 May our small format expo finally opened! The Thursday before we put the artwork up, 50 aquarelles in tasteful black and white wooden frames, of 20x20 centimeters. We did it all in such a good mood, it was clear to see how well we function as a group! Everybody assumed some tasks and we were done pretty quickly... Afterwards we were all excited by how good it looked!

And then we were ready for the visitors...

They slowly started to come in, until the vernissage started - that was when we really had a full house and sold the first 8 pictures, as well as a lot of our 'cocktail' postcard sets...

We closed the doors around 8pm and went for a nice dinner to celebrate...

We have decided to open the doors for the public on Thursday (29 May) from 2 - 5pm, Friday 30 May from 10 am - 5pm, and Sunday all day, with cocktails and nibbles from 3pm.
If you prefer another day to visit - let us know, we are most willing to open up if we know someone's interested!
