ART SCAMS! a warning....

From time to time artists with a website are approached per email by potential buyers, who are very interested in their work.

If this happens to you, pay attention! Of course you are delighted (especially the first time it happens) and when you google the name of the sender you will find that it is a well-known art-collector. That looks legit. But it doesn't have to be... It may also be a clever scam. Be warned!
The first give away is that the English in the mail is not perfect. Often the scammers use a name and an email address of a real collector or other art-related professional. If you get in touch, they will always want to buy your art, and use their own company for transport.
They will pay, by paypal or transfer. But the amount will be too high.
They will ask you to buy electronics or other expensive things and pack it with the artwork.
And when the artwork and electronics are picked up, they undo the payment...

Model Starters group

Friday mornings until 19 December, we have a Model starters class. This class is meant for people who would like to come to the live class on Monday morning, but need a bit more knowledge of proportions, perspective and balance before they feel ready for the complicated and sometimes super-quick poses!
We've had the first 3 lessons, heavy on theory, drawing from big pictures, and it is going so much better!

Today we were with a very small group! We practised foreshortning again, and measuring, and looking at the empty space and after the break we started with 'drawing the light', with a white pen on black paper. 

 It was great! Next week, we proceed with that same exercise, and we have our first one full hour nude model! And here are today's best results!

The starters group (Avril and Fabienne) is working on spheres, a very important excercise for understanding and suggesting 'volume'. Using highlights, consistent shadows - not always evident - and the right colour combinations.

It is a nice one to work on, and sometimes a more experienced watercolorist participates too, like Christine, because it is so much fun. One of the subjects is 'complementary colours'

If you use the complementary colour as the shadow colour, the effect is 'warmer' than when you use black, blue or grey...

The direction of the shadow that the object itsel makes on the surface should be consistent with the direction of the light, which can be derived from where the highlight is... It's not that easy actually, there's a lot to be puzzled about, and I think the group did a good job!!

In this class we work with a wide range of projects. Dom has been making utensils. To start with he use brown and white clay - but once it has been fired it comes out black and white.

Portraits still seem to be everyones favourite subject - even when they are far away from us like Orjan (who's still in Sweden but misses us big time and will return soon). The reason might be that you are so good at them!

The leaves are real, she spattered paint on them and will continue tomorrow...

Agnes experimented with colours and a 'stained glass' approach, where the empty space is seen as an object. Very interesting - and worth persuing! 

This try-out certainly has something very attractrive...

And last but by no means least, Cathie finished her 'Rusty Lock' and made it so interesting with that mysterious half-open door...

Tomorrow: Storm and Thunder expected! We will be cozy and warm in the Hangar, sipping tisane and listening to Adèle or Mozart - and maybe even paint a bit ha ha!

Come join the Thursday Sculpture classes

Thursdays are sculpture days at the Hangar. We work in clay, plaster, concrete and other materials and make both abstract and figurative sculptures.

Not only do we do sculpture - we also work in clay and make bowls, vases etc. Below you can see a selection of vases from last year.

There's room for more artists - come and join us. (Beginners are welcome)
