Spectacular stripes

Lucia Gualtieri
With Pim in hospital we (the drawing group) use 'his' Monday mornings in an alternative way - last time without a model, but with inspiring pictures! Pictures have the advantage that they are two-dimensional and sit very still, and models on pictures can sit for 3 hours in complicated poses. For a couple of these pictures, we worked with white pen or crayon on black paper.
We worked very hard and the results (though not all were finished) were stunning! As you can see for yourself...

Live model drawing - Monday 9.30 - 12 - Marina Kulik

Sunniva Langmoen, Neville Moray, Lucia Gualtieri and Sandra Seymour-Dale hard at work...

Every other Monday there is a live model class, for the artists who are seriously studying the human shape and want to train their hand-eye coordination. I don't think there is something more difficult than drawing the human body, in proportion, and with a likeness! Yet the Monday morning group does a great job...
Mélisandre by Charmian Murley
I have noticed that the people who participate in the live class are not afraid to take on whatever subject with their pencils...
Sue Ellis

Our "model du jour" was new to us, Mélisandre, a professional model from Paris - and it was a fantastic experience to work with her!
Virginie Bertoluzzi

She sits incredibly still, I don't have to tell her anything about positions, she knows what will be interesting to draw - and from all angles.

Gwenaelle Chabaud

Apart from that she has a beautiful body... No wonder she is fully booked all the time, but I'll try to get her as often as possible, and we may spend the full Monday with her and use paint...

Trish Morris

I took pictures with my phone, they came out really bad, so I'm afraid I won't be able show you Sunniva's, Neville's, Sandra's and Lucia's work this time...

Drawing a live model - on Monday 13 December

Model Marie-Jo portrayed by Joop van der Zon

Monday the 13th we got together to practice the sharp eye and hand, making drawings of Marie-Jo, one of our favourite models. And because it was the last time, we celebrated by having Marie-Jo in just one pose. So that we could work a bit longer 'to get it right'! But first as always a warming up, where we draw one- and two-minute poses... If we draw these, there is no time to think! and the ones that come out ok are usually accurate with that spontaneous extra that makes them very interesting!
One-minute poses by Virginie Bertoluzzi

The following pictures show what we saw from the circle we made around Marie-Jo, the lightfall (very sharp, fast moving sunlight that threw confusing shadows on her body) and her pose - very peaceful, but oh so hard for her to maintain...

That was the drawing group for 2010! We will see each other again on 10 January 2011 - but the blogging won't stop! Keep watching this space!

a live model

Wim Teunissen - charcoal and sanguine crayon

Every other Monday morning we get together for a couple of hours to draw a live -nude- model. Last time Marie-Jo sat for us. She is beautiful and great to draw, she understands what we need and what makes a pose interesting. No surprise as she is an artist (sculptor) herself...  Last Monday we started with a warming-up, first 6 poses of ONE minute, then some of 2 minutes, then 5, 10 and the last two of half an hour.  The objective of this class is to practice, sharpen the drawing skills, train the eye - and absolutely NOT to create beautiful results, but - as you can see - that happens anyway!!   Many different styles in this group - but the overall quality is excellent. Here's an impression:

SL - charcoal. She did this picture in 2 minutes...

There was more outstanding work but my pictures (taken with my phone) turned out  awful...

Drawing Class - Pim de Jongh

Every other Monday morning, Pim de Jongh welcomes a group of people who want to "sharpen" their drawing skills (or keep them sharp...). Last week the challenge was to make a drawing in pencil, where the main ingredient was a bottle in the foreground - and in the drawing the picture had to be seen through the bottle - but the distortion of the image had to be done from imagination...

an exciting excercise, with great results...
