Drawing Franck - Monday Morning live model

The Monday  live model drawing group works together for three years now. The poses have become increasingly complicated and the work has moved from 'getting the proportions right' to interesting creations, showing true mastery, personality and artistic style. I am very proud - below you can see why:

SL's version - accurate, tender and personal

Sunniva, working on another sketch - serious and concentrated

Same goes for Sue Ellis - and for all of us by the way... We're all 'exhausted' after 2 hours of very intensive observing! But it's worth it... people who participate in this class are never afraid to draw, whatever the subject...

Live model drawing - Monday 9.30 - 12 - Marina Kulik

Sunniva Langmoen, Neville Moray, Lucia Gualtieri and Sandra Seymour-Dale hard at work...

Every other Monday there is a live model class, for the artists who are seriously studying the human shape and want to train their hand-eye coordination. I don't think there is something more difficult than drawing the human body, in proportion, and with a likeness! Yet the Monday morning group does a great job...
Mélisandre by Charmian Murley
I have noticed that the people who participate in the live class are not afraid to take on whatever subject with their pencils...
Sue Ellis

Our "model du jour" was new to us, Mélisandre, a professional model from Paris - and it was a fantastic experience to work with her!
Virginie Bertoluzzi

She sits incredibly still, I don't have to tell her anything about positions, she knows what will be interesting to draw - and from all angles.

Gwenaelle Chabaud

Apart from that she has a beautiful body... No wonder she is fully booked all the time, but I'll try to get her as often as possible, and we may spend the full Monday with her and use paint...

Trish Morris

I took pictures with my phone, they came out really bad, so I'm afraid I won't be able show you Sunniva's, Neville's, Sandra's and Lucia's work this time...

Live Model drawing - Marina Kulik - 31/01/2011

Meet last week's model drawing crew:

As you can see, there's deep concentration during the live model class... we had a great time last Monday, with one of our favourite models, Carolyn, who sat beautifully for 2 hours! But as always we started with a couple of quick poses - it's a good warming up and becuase there is no time to think, the drawings are always spontaneous and often surprisingly accurate!

...five short poses...
...and two longer ones...

Live Model drawing - Marina Kulik - 17/01/2011

Last Monday we had a fantastic session with a small group drawing our full-bodied model Carolyn. The only thing that didn't work with us (but what else would you expect in the South of France) was the sun! It shone so bright through the windows, that even our spotlights were too weak to make the shadows dissappear... you can see it in some of the other pictures too - but apart from that it was a wonderful morning... we worked hard, drawing several 'two-minute' poses...

and two longer ones of around half an hour... Click the pictures to enlarge them...

As you can see the concentration is deep and when we are finished the participants are usually content - and exhausted. If you are interested to participate, drop me (Marina Kulik) an email!

Drawing a live model - on Monday 13 December

Model Marie-Jo portrayed by Joop van der Zon

Monday the 13th we got together to practice the sharp eye and hand, making drawings of Marie-Jo, one of our favourite models. And because it was the last time, we celebrated by having Marie-Jo in just one pose. So that we could work a bit longer 'to get it right'! But first as always a warming up, where we draw one- and two-minute poses... If we draw these, there is no time to think! and the ones that come out ok are usually accurate with that spontaneous extra that makes them very interesting!

The following pictures show what we saw from the circle we made around Marie-Jo, the lightfall (very sharp, fast moving sunlight that threw confusing shadows on her body) and her pose - very peaceful, but oh so hard for her to maintain...

That was the drawing group for 2010! We will see each other again on 10 January 2011 - but the blogging won't stop! Keep watching this space!
