Aquarelle class of 9 June: tempera and aquarelle with Cathie & Bev!

Another tempera afternoon - without yours truly, but that didn't matter, because Cathie was there, and Bev. They made sure everyone had the zen afternoon they needed. Below some pictures of what was achieved:
Brenda is back! She tried out the tempera and after scrapping back a lot of colour  created this impressive Iris!

Sandra worked in aquarelle, on these tulips, with a very interesting masked curtain.

Bev worked with tempera to paint these eggs, on a  home-prepared gesso surface. She found it an enjoyable challenge.

Patience no.1 Using tempera and gouache.

Patience no. 2 tempera and gouache

Patience no 3 - this picture has a story - about a wall between two souls

Lindas came for the very first time and created her first watercolours and to quote Cathie: WOW! How good is this?? Looking forward to working with you Linda!

Edith started a new watercolour wave.

And almost finished her panda.
She used tempera & pigment for the trunk and added a bit stronger green.
Looking very good!!

Another fabulous still life with brushes by Cathie.

and always interesting: Linda's exercise in colour mixing.

And way way far away in England, Agnès was thinking of us and creating a fabulous Renaissance portrait - with a doodle twist:

Cat and Beverly thank you both so very much for being there and taking over when I couldn't be there, so that we could have continuity! I deeply appreciate it and by the look of it the group has loved it too!

Aquarelle-Tuesdays from 2 - 4.30pm with Marina

Agnès
Last week the Aquarellistas proceeded with the clouds - this time we didn't follow the youtube instuctions, but used our own insights (and lots of kitchen paper). As you can see below and above, that led to better results - we're better when the initiative is ours, so much is clear! It was a lovely afternoon and we welcomed 3 new painters, and also we had Mieke (who has been absent for serious reasons) in our midst, which was great! And what's more, she had not forgotten how to paint...

Apart from the clouds, there were a couple of projects that needed attention - and which worked out very very well:

 Emily

The painting by Emily, is her very first watercolour. It is Exercise Number One of our book - meant to show the differences and similarities with colour-mixing and colour-layers, and she did a near-perfect job... I have high hopes for her!!

Aquarelle Tuesdays 2 - 4.30pm with Marina

Last Tuesday we built a 'Pim-like' still life. Quite a challenge, with the white stuff - but if you look carefully you can see that there is no white in the picture at all!

Beverly got it so right, especially the warm light! Excellent job...
Note that the flowers were added to the still life after I made the photo...
And that she was sitting (lower viewpoint)
The flowers were a gift of Anna-Karin, beautiful white peonies.
She painted two of them in her o-so-recognisable subtle style!

Nusch's version is very attractive - especially with the transparent vase!

There were also other flowers, Edith painted one arum 'full face'

Liz finished her happy bike - doesn't it look fabulous!

And this is what Nusch paints when there is another half hour to go... do these birds have passion!

Aquarelle Tuesday, 2 - 4.30pm, with Marina Kulik

ROSES

Last week the aquarellistas divided their time between préparations for our 50x50 expo, and one of the most interesting subjects for a watercolour: Roses...
Beverley brought this gorgeous bunch from her garden:

They looked so fantastic - and they smelled so good - the 'advanced' group couldn't help themselves and painted roses from the bunch all afternoon

Cathie's rose in progress

Mieke's practice rose

 Bev's Rose

NB:There was more excellent work - but somehow the pictures didn't work out!

The other Aquarellistas diligently followed my 'theory bit' about roses, and created the pictures on top of this post! All the same and yet so different ☺
Roses are difficult to paint - but the aquarellista group has tackeled the subject pretty well!!

Other subjects:
Liz's Still life with lemons

'Grandson' - by Brenda

'Market in Valbonne' by Wendy

Aquarellista Afternoon (Tuesday 9 May 2011, 2 - 4.30pm)

The Aquarelle watercolours group had a wonderful Tuesday afternoon in the sun! They are preparing for a Grand Prix d'Aquarelle, they are busy creating cards for the Hangar Summer fête and they are contemplating what they will create for our exhibition 'Le Village' in September... All great fun, and inspiring as you can see below!!
