FANTASTIC HANGAR EXHIBITION IN VALBONNE

From 29 January 10.30 the doors of the Salle St Esprit open to an exhibition of artwork from the Hangar artists.
I was part of the organizing team and I am so proud of what it has become! It looks amazing as a total, the artworks are diverse and of a high quality and the theme 'Quel Cirque' has inspired everyone to think 'playful' which has led to great results!

Of course this is a MUST-VISIT exhibition - and we would love to see you all on the Vernissage on Saturday 30 January, from 12 noon - or on another date: we are open every day from 10.30 - 6pm!

But here's a picture-preview (thank you MJ and Karin!) for the really curious - and for the 60 participants who I'm sure can't wait to see how it has turned out...

Even if you have no artwork in this exhibition, you can be an active participant: we will have a contest for the most popular artwork! On the "Finissage" (the last day of the exhibition, on Sunday 14 February, when we will finish the leftover drinks and make sure there are nibbles) we will announce the winner! Everybody can vote - there are forms and a big box to put them into...

To be admired: Watercolours, Drawings, Acrylic paintings, Sculptures, Oil paintings and Art Prints.  Most of the artwork is for sale...
RECOMMENDED!!

The Aquarellistas - the watercolour group of the Hangar

On Tuesdays, from 2pm - 4.30 pm the Hangar is a very zen place: it is warm and cosy, there is music, there is herb tea, chatting and laughing - but also deep concentration. A watercolour is different from other painting techniques - we work on paper, with the transparent and watery paint, and we work fast and spontaneous. Usually we spend 1 afternoon on a subject and then most of us are finished!

And then sometimes we do research or an experiment. Like last week, when we dived in the subject of "Short Curly Hair". It was inspired by the front page of the magazine l'Art de l'Aquarelle:
Front Page painting by Dylan Scott Pierce

The assignment was meant to experiment and try out what would work best to create the illusion of curly hair... The idea was not to create a beautiful picture or a deep statement. It was practicing hair, with a face underneath to explain what it is meant to be... But of course you can't suppress talent - and as you can see, most of the curls are totally believable!

( pupils to be added and lips to be defined but curls are good!)

 True research! by Sue

Edith is still working on this portrait. mainly with a fine brush. Amazing character!!

Agnès used a combination of wet-in-wet and palet knife to achieve this breathtaking painting!!
Carol worked on this serious boy. What a character... Is he anxious about something?

Yes! This painting is now finished and telling a story! You can check it out from 29 January in the Quel Cirque Exhibition in Valbonne (more about that very soon!)

See http://www.aquarellista.blogspot.fr/ for more info about the project itself!

Life Drawing in the Hangar

Every other Monday we have a model in the Hangar - last week it was the voluptuous Louise.
She is a wonderful model, who understands how we, the artists, like it best! and that's visible from the results... New and experienced alike created interesting work! Above picture shows drawings made during the short poses (from 1 to 10 minutes) and below the results of the 1-hour pose, where some participants use the full hour to create a perfect drawing, and others make different versions, often from different viewpoints! This class energises you and makes your creative juices flow - I can't think of a better way to start your week!!

Pim in the News

A great way to start the year for Pim de Jongh: A Three-Page article about his life and work in the Holland Côte d'Azur Magazine.

Translation of the headline:
The Painters' World of Pim de Jongh
Humor often plays a big role in his work

It is very interesting, with lots of pictures and you can also read about his life and drive, from birth to now.
The article is written by art historian Lèneke Knipscheer, who also is an associate member of the Hangar!

One of these days I will put a copy in the Hangar for those who do not receive the magazine...

Congratulations with this achievement Pim!

NB: In the same magazine, there's a also review of the Hangar Exhibition:
