The first Cafe Culture of the season
Yesterday evening, December 14th, we hosted our first again, since a few years.
Autour de Marcel Proust et la peinture

They are both big fans of Marcel Proust, to say the least. They studied his works in depth and were enthusiastically sharing their knowledge and admiration, with the little group of visitors. A shame it coincided with the football match.
They gave a vivid presentation accompanied by pictures of grand passages of his books read , to show Proust 's way of writing about famous art works.
Here for example Vermeer's painting 'View of Delft', in which Proust a little patch of yellow wall describes. 'a petit pan de mur jaune'
It was very interesting indeed and good training for my french, although Natalie was translating if necessary in English.
It is great to see and be able to enjoy together the knowledge of Hangar members,
outside the range of our regular classes.

Next one is Februari 8th 2023, by our new mixed media teacher Valentine Costes about her trip and adventures in India and Nepal. Every second Wednesday evening of the month we will have a Cafe Culture from then on.
Various topics will be addressed, so stay tuned , block your agenda and come and join the Hangar spirit.

Hier soir, 14 décembre, nous avons de nouveau accueilli notre premier Café Culture, depuis quelques années.
Autour de Marcel Proust et la peinture

Ils sont tous deux de grands fans de Marcel Proust, c'est le moins qu'on puisse dire. Ils ont étudié ses œuvres en profondeur et ont partagé avec enthousiasme leurs connaissances et leur admiration avec le petit groupe de visiteurs. Dommage que cela est coïncidé avec le match de foot.
Ils ont donné une présentation vivante accompagnée d'images de grandes œuvres d'art et lus des passages de ses livres, pour montrer la manière d'écrire de Proust sur des œuvres d'art célèbres.
Ici par exemple le tableau de Vermeer 'Vue de Delft', dans lequel Proust décrit un petit pan de mur jaune.
C'était vraiment très intéressant et une bon exercice pour mon français, même si Natalie traduisait si nécessaire en anglais.
C'est formidable de voir et de pouvoir profiter ensemble des connaissances des membres du Hangar, hors de la portée de nos cours réguliers.
Merci Patrick et Natalie, ce fut un plaisir de vous écouter.
Le prochain café Culture aura lieu le 8 février 2023, où notre nouvelle enseignante de Médias Mixtes, Valentine Costes, fera une présentation sur son parcours et aventures en Inde et Népal.
Et à partir de là tous les deuxièmes mercredis soirs du mois divers sujets seront abordés. Alors restez connectés, notez dans votre agenda et venez rejoindre l'esprit Hangar !

The Hangar Open Day on 26 November 2022 was a sunny & big success
Under a great bit of autumn sunshine, we had our first Open Day, in a long time, at the Hangar. yesterday.
Les Portes Ouvertes du Hangar de hier était une grande success, avec une bonne touch de soleil!
The friendly and open atmosphere was felt by everyone who visited. All the talented teachers where present with a presentation of their classes and works by themselves and their students.
A great and colourful ensemble.
Toutes les profs était present avec une presentation de leurs classes et travail de lui-memes et leurs enseignants. Tous le monde sentait l'atmosphere conviviale et ouverte , qu'on connait du Hangar.

The Hangar clean up day today . Nettoyage du Hangar aujourd'hui.
Today it was a beautiful day as we set out to do some cleaning work around our Hangar .
We had help from a few active members , which was greatly appreciated.

Even decorating our parking with more sculptures. C'etait une belle journée pour faire le nettoyage du Hangar . Quelques membres nous avons aidés, de nettoyer les sculptures et des espaces exterieurs et interieurs. Aussi a decorer notre parking.

On vas le refaire bientôt si on a eu l'élageur des arbres.
We need to do more but wait for a professional tree trimmer, to do some cutting of the trees around.

NEW: Atelier d'ART TEXTILE at The Hangar!
Francesca Messina, artiste visuelle, textile et art-thérapeute, vous propose un atelier d'art textile une fois par mois à Le Hangar.
Passionnée depuis toujours de l'univers textile, elle a utilisé ce médium dans ses créations artistiques comme dans l'art-thérapie. Depuis le 2017, elle a créé la marque Esserefilo en proposant des créations pour la décoration de la maison et pour l'habillement.

Dans l'expression artistique, le textile ajoute à la communication visuelle le sens du toucher et les impressions donnés par les différents type de textures. Cela permet d'avoir une multitude de possibilités d'expression et d'interaction.
Ces ateliers ont le but de créer un espace d'expérimentation du textile, ouvert à qui comme Francesca a cette attraction pour les fibres et est intéressé à la communication artistique par les matières.
Le premier atelier sera consacré au tissage, un stage d'initiation de la durée d'une journée qui ne demande pas de connaissances préalables.

Lors de cette journée vous apprendrez à utiliser un métier à tisser pour pouvoir créer une œuvre textile de debut à la fin a suspendre ou transformer à votre choix, suivant vos goûts personnels et votre intuition créative. À votre disposition vous aurez un cadre en bois, de la laine, fils, tissus, différentes matières et tout le nécessaire pour travailler.
Vous aurez des biscuits et du thé ou du café à votre disposition pour pouvoir vous détendre au mieux tout en travaillant.

Textile Art workshops
Francesca Messina, visual, textile artist and art therapist, offers you a textile art workshop once a month at Le Hangar.
She has always been passionate about the textile world using this medium in her artistic creations as well as in art therapy.
In 2017 she created the brand Esserefilo producing on her weaving loo; items for home decoration and for clothing.

In artistic expression, textiles add to visual communication the sense of touch and the impressions given by the different types of texture.
This allows to have a multitude of possibilities of expression and interaction.
The workshops aim is to create a space for textile experimentation, open to who, like Francesca, has this attraction for fibers and is interested in artistic communication through materials.
The first workshop will be devoted to weaving, a one-day initiation course that does not require prior knowledge
Hand Weaving Workshop 27th november 2022 10-17h
Immerse yourself in a creative and relaxing experience learning the basic techniques of weaving. During this day you will learn how to use a loom to be able to create a textile art work from start to finish to hang or transform as you wish, according to your personal tastes and your creative intuition.
At your disposal you will have a wooden weaving loom, wool, threads, fabrics, different materials and everything you need to work.
To make you feel relax as best you can while working, biscuits and tea or coffee will be at your disposal during the day.

*Main stitches and knots of weaving technique
*How to start and close your woven art work, finishing techniques

It is not necessary to have knowledge of weaving to be able to participate, you will be guided in each phase of the work.

Supplies included (feel free to bring old magazines or any other fun supplies you can think about!)tinu my studies in Paris, while I was admitted to all the art colleges to go on the adventure of the school of Life, in India and then in Nepal. There, art caught up with me quickly to do many murals for restaurants and hotels. Soon after I gave painting lessons for expatriate and local children, then art therapy afternoons for adults. I thus lived for more than a year in Nepal, blocked and without a bank card during the covid period, living only from my artistic activities! After some local political problems, I returned to France to devote myself more to my artistic practice and that's how I decided to do an intensive year of American art school online and coached. Today, I continue my artistic path and I would like to share my experience with Mixed Media, an intuitive, spontaneous and fun practice, open to everyone!
We will see together different techniques such as: collage, inks, spray paint, markers, gold leaf, rollers, texture... We will also learn how to do constructive criticism, create unique and personal compositions, go out of our comfort zone, be more expressive, creative and inspired…!

Great tip for a beautiful and inspiring exposition, to visit this week in Valbonne's , Salle St.Esprit
A colourful and diverse exhibition takes place until October 30th. A must see!
Marina Kulik , one of Hangar's lovely and inspiring teachers, exposes with Sally Ducrow, an independent artist who specialises in Land Art.
The exposition, 'Mondes Paralleles' , shows works from them using only recycled materials, beside others.
They have created different worlds, each with their artistic visions, subjects and materials , which makes this exhibition very colourful and diverse indeed.
A Cosmic World, an Artistic World, a Spiritual World and also the World of Valbonne.
There are sculptures from pieces of nature, paintings in all kind of media and styles.
For all tastes there is something and all pieces are for sale at reasonable prices .
Yesterday evening was the well visited vernissage. It was a warm and joyful event, with lots of family and friends present.
Our President , Sylvie Morliere, added a colourful speech and it was finished off with a drink and some nibbles.
Go and have a look for yourself to see their Parallel Worlds of creativity and inspiration.
Where? In the fabulous building, the Salle St. Esprit, next to the church in the old medieval village of valbonne.
A great exhibition place , with faulted ceilings great light and atmosphere.

The Hangar Autumn Trip 2022 to Fontvieille
On Friday morning 23 September a group of enthusiastic drawers and painters drove all the way to Fontvieille in Les Alpilles for the Hangar Autumn trip. An intense weekend of drawing and painting outside, organized by the board (president Ina Carels) and 2 teachers (Marina K and Marina T).
We had 4 sessions, all different, all in amazing surroundings, with fantastic lunch to recharge and when we got home in the hotel there was a pool, a lovely bar and then fantastic food. A true success, everyone worked so well and the artworks created were without exception of an amazing quality. The Hangar crew was -and is- very proud of all participants
New friendships were forged, there were partners who discovered great walks, museums and wine tastings and golf mates found each other!
Sunday night all participants were home again!
Everything worked out, Big Thank You to Ina Carels' immaculate organisation!!
Even the morning rain on Saturday made the stay in the Abbaye just more cozy and rewarding.
We will soon organize a reunion, with an exhibition of the best works – and here are some action pictures/memories!!
