Meet our new President!

The new president of the Hangar Board is Catharina Carels - or Ina. 

Since the last AGM  Ina is the person who oversees all the ins and outs of the Hangar. 
She is the first president since Anton Dikken who actually paints and draws in our classes. And she is also the first woman in that role since Dilek Owen at the very start of our association!

Sounds like good news for us! In this blog post Ina introduces herself:

"Since november 24th I am the president of our Art Center Le Hangar for the coming year.
My name is Ina Carels, I was born in the Netherlands, but living in Belgium for a long time. I am a mother of two daughters and yes, almost a grandmother.

Art in general and drawing and painting in particular has always had my attention. During the years of my professional career as a psychologist, I took some drawing and painting lessons now and then. It has been an opportunity to express myself and to find relaxation and furthermore a way to connect with other amateur artists and people interested in art .

In 2018, two years before my retirement I became a member of Le Hangar and I felt immediately at home. Being surrounded by very experienced teachers, a warm atmosphere, people from all over the world and of all ages, is a truly unique experience. At the moment I am following lessons in drawing (still life and live model) and painting (acrylics) and sometimes a watercolour class. It’s quite hard to choose from the many possibilities!

As a president I want to highlight that the core of Le Hangar consists of its members and their activities (drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics) and the teachers who guide the creative process and it will be my task to look after a smooth functioning of the association.

On top of the regular lessons already organised by the teachers, I want to organise cultural events and art trips in a way that all members can get involved and feel connected through several activities, as a participant and/or a volunteer. And I am hoping to recruit some new members as well.

Above all I want to guard a spirit of mutual respect, openness and friendship, an ambience where members will feel free to express themselves and also feel free to come up with new ideas.

I am looking forward to a wonderful year!

"Je m’appelle Ina Carels et depuis 24 novembre je suis la présidente du Hangar pour une année. Née aux Pays-Bas, je m’habite maintenant en Belgique. 

Je suis une mère de deux filles et oui, presque une grand-mère. L’art en général et dessiner et peindre en particulier ont toujours attrapé mon attention. Pendant les années de ma carrière comme psychologue, j’ai suivis des cours de dessiner et peindre temps à temps. Une opportunité de m’exprimer et trouver de la relaxation et en plus une façon de connecter avec autres amateurs artistes et amateurs d’art. 

En 2018 , deux années avant ma retraite je suis devenue membre du Hangar et j’ai me sentis ‘à la maison ‘ immédiatement. En étant entouré par les professeurs experts, une ambiance chaleureuse, des membres de partout dans le monde et de touts âges, on a une expérience vraiment unique. 

En ce moment je suis les cours de dessiner (nature morte et modèle vivant) et peindre (acrylique) et parfois le cours d’aquarel. C’est difficile à choisir , il y a tellement de choix.

Comme présidente je veux souligner le coeur du Hangar: les membres et les professeurs qui sont les guides du processus créatif. Je prendrai soin d’un fonctionnement fluide concernant l’association. À coté des cours qui sont organisés par les professeurs, je voudrais organiser des évènements culturels et des tours de dessin afin que tous membres pourront participer et que tous se sentiront connectés par les activités divers, comme participant et/ou bénévole.

Avant tout je veux garder un esprit de respect mutuel, réceptivité et amitié, une ambiance dans laquelle tous membres se sentent libre de s’exprimer, et aussi de passer des nouvelles idées.
