Sculpture Class on Thursdays at the Hangar

Dear Thursday Sculpture students,

While Christie is away for a few weeks, Gabriela Boiangiu has offered to take over her Thursday class and have it going as usual while she is away. Class will run as usual between 10:00 and 16:00 with a break for lovely lunch. Please bring something to share for lunch, as Gabriela will keep Christie's habit of bringing a large green salad.

Chers etudiant sculpture juedi, alors que Christine est absent pour quelques semaines, Gabriela Boiangiu a offert de prendre en charge sa classe jeudi et le faire passer comme d'habitude, alors qu'elle se trouve. Class se deroula comme d'abitude 10:00-16:00 avec une pause pour un dejeuner charmant. S'il vous plait apporter quelque chose a partager pour le dejeuner, comme Gabriela gardera l'habitude de Christie d'apporter une grande salade verte.

Christie should be back to lessons as usual either last Thursday in June or early July.

Christie devrait se retour aux lecons soit jeudi dernier en juin ou aux debut de Juillet.

Life drawing is a landscape drawing this Monday 30 May 9:30-12:00

Just letting everyone know that the life drawing class will be a landscape class, due to little number of students registered. Plese bring canvases if you may like to do some painting, or I will provide paper, pencils and charcoal if you prefer to draw.

GREAT WATERCOLOUR EXHIBITION IN GOURDON

From 20 - 26 May there's an exhibition of wonderful watercolours in Gourdon:

Hangar Aquarellistas Sandra Seymour-Dale, Liz Douglas and Cathie van der Stel show their latest and greatest in the Galerie de la Mairie, immediately adjacent to the church entrance.
The exhibition 'LA PALETTE MELANGEE' is open every day from 10am - 5pm.

Saturday Acrylics Class with Nelly!

FYI: Pim sera absent ce samedi 14 mai, mais prof de la classe d'huile Nelly, le prendra et veut vous aider avec son expertise - Pim won't be there this Saturday 14 May but Oil teacher Nelly will kindly take over and help you with her advice

11 Drawings of a naked girl

 

Every other Monday we have a life class and when Louise is posing everyone always feels just a little bit more inspired... She will also be there coming Tuesday (16 May) so if you want to join us and  add your version to the collection, you are most welcome from 9.30! These drawings are created in 45 minutes, the time we have left after a (necessary) coffee break. Before that we draw 1- and 2-minute poses and a couple of 10-minute poses... It is a great way to start your creative week - you'll be exhausted and fulfilled at the same time!

MJ Obrentz in Exhibition 'Les Artistes Roquefortois'

MJ Obrentz, Vice-President of the board and enthusiastic painter in Pim's Wednesday group will have no less than three paintings in the exhibition  'Les Artistes Roquefortois'.

The exhibition starts on Friday 13 Mai and finishes 11 June 2016.
The Vernissage: Friday 13 May at 6.30pm in the Centre Culturel in Roquefort les Pins, next to the cinema.
To view her creations in their full glory, come and visit! It is close to the Hangar and certainly worth while!

Meet Marijke Obbink

You may have noticed how well the last Café Culture was organized and how smooth it ran!
There's a reason for that - we have a new board member who has 'Event-Implementation' as her specialism...

Meet Marijke Obbink

Marijke is Dutch and lives in Mougins since 2001. As one of Pim's artists, she usually works in the Saturday morning group.

"For many years, I wanted to paint and to draw, as I really enjoyed this activity at school. The easel and paint were bought and at close hand. But because of my demanding job I never got to do it. Last year, a few months before retirement, I had more time to start investing in hobbies, so I checked the painting courses available nearby and ended up choosing Le Hangar. The relaxed and international atmosphere appealed to me. It is a pleasure to forget everything while painting, to live “in the moment”. I’m still in the phase of learning, copying art works and photographs, experiencing colors. But the next stage may be to 'let go' and create..."

Until 2015 Marijke ran her own company with a French partner for 33 years: an 'incoming agency', specialized in organising groups, seminars, events, in Côte d’Azur & Provence. Her job allowed her to get to know the region in all its diversity! After retirment she still handles a few clients just for fun. But she can finally spend more time with her hobbies: hiking, golfing, gardening, travelling and last but not least: painting!

"My mother was a painter before she married, she earned her living during and after the war painting flower bouquets and one of her works was owned by President Eisenhower. She would have enjoyed that I continue her passion, albeit as an amateur…"

One-Day Spring Expo

Le Printemps des Jardins.
On Saturday 7 May there's a Provençal market in Valbonne, dedicated to 'The Spring'

Lovely stands with flowers, fruit, garden utensils and everything 'Printemps' all over the village.

And in the middle, in the old Mairie: Photographer Marc Lapolla, Land Artist Sally Ducrow and Aquarellista Marina Kulik, with a pop-up exhibition inspired by 'Printemps'.  

Make sure you pass by if you are in Valbonne this Saturday: we're there for only one day!!

Note for the Aquarellistas: You will be able to check out  new stuff, all types of  varnished watercolours:  on canvas, on watercolour boards and on paper, all framed in classic frames!

Also on those walls amongst others Zodiac silk screen prints (great mothers'day gifts!)...

And of course fantastic macro photographs by Marc Lapolla as well as original and beautiful landart sculptures by Sally Ducrow.
