An evening with Abstract Landscapes

This monday evening, 10 artists participated in the abstract session. The topic at the moment is abstract landscapes. Pim has shown examples of artists such as Richard Diebenkorn and Nicolas de Stael and talked about their techniques. 

While working on the abstracts the group continuously hears Pim say - "not too realistic" or "not too nice".

Monday Abstract Classes

For the past couple of years the same group has got together on Monday evenings to do abstract paintings. Right now everyone is preparing for the big event this summer: - the exhibition ABSTRACT VIBRATIONS. Pim is the guide, teacher and master of the class. Here you see him at the end of the evening, happy with everyone's work.

During the time the group has spent together- time has been devoted to different artists and movements. Everyone seems to have their favourites. This is Michele de Laat working on her last piece - it is a "typical Michele" - everyone in the group has learned to recognize it.

Merete Frickmann has produced a lot of paintings - usually they are very Scandinavian in their colours. Monday evening she started working on a much smaller format. If you would like to see Merete's work take a look at her website: http://merete.hangarart.org

Anne Holtermann also has a very characteristic style. Pim has for quite some time tried carefully suggesting that she should try out some new colour palettes. Maybe she was influenced by the sunset on Sunday - here she is working on a pink masterpiece.

Lisbeth Petersen has also developed a characteristic style and uses earth colours. Here she is discussing with Anne how to proceed. Being able to discuss ones work with fellow artists is one of the things this group really likes about the sessions.

Meet Puska !!

Puska is the artist name of one of our honorary members – Anne Marie Viborel. She moved from Paris to Roquefort Les Pins with her husband at the end of 1999. After setting up her house, she looked around for activities to fill her free time. She heard about Luc Veger, a Dutch artist, who was giving sculpting-lessons in Bar sur Loup and became one of his students. Anne Marie has been a member of Le Hangar since the beginning.

After Luc Veger, passed away, she started painting-lessons with Pim de Jongh. The Wednesday class consisted of only about 8 students. What a difference from today. She also joined the metalworking class and made some interesting sculptures which you can see standing in her garden, and some in the house.

Until recently, Anne-Marie was a member of the board and also a very active member of the “house committee” – always keeping the place nice and clean – and also responsible for the catering on all our social days. She was also one of the organizers of the annual painting trip.

Anne Marie was one of the initial members of the Hangar Abstract Group which paints on Mondays. Like the rest of the group she has tried her hand at varies different styles.

Pim’s Acrylics class - a special project

Once a month Pim has a special project for his Acrylics classes. Last month the project was “Summer: Hot & Dry”. The February project was “Spring: New life & rebirth”.  Members can either come with their own photos or images that they want to paint, they can paint from memory or use one of the many suggestions Pim has prepared for the class. An Abstract Marathon Session

A fairly good marathon runner will complete the distance in 3 hours. This is the same amount of time as we have on the Monday evenings to do our abstract painting. This Monday everyone was really energic and worked on their canvases as you can see from the paintings below. Everyone is preparing for the upcoming exhibition this summer in Theoule-sur-Mer. So far everyone has completed at least one painting – and the really fast painters are now on their fourth or fifth.
