Portrait drawing - Monday morning 10 - 12 with Marina

 

After 5 well-visited Portrait theory sessions on the Thursday mornings, we now moved on to drawing sessions with a live model. These sessions are meant to bring into practice everything we have learned - which is difficult, but also very rewarding! These sessions are also open for others by the way, so if you feel like coming in and give model drawing a try, you are most welcome to join!

 

The pictures below are some of the results from last week (some photo's didn't work out I'm sorry!), when we had journalist and writer Carolyn Reynier from Nice as a model. All portraits are different (a portrait has two people in it, the person and the painter!) yet all (included the ones not printed here) are a good impressions of Carolyn in all personal styles...

 

 

 



The Portrait Workshop on Thursday Mornings

On Thursday 18 April we had the last part of the portrait workshop... which ended with the creation of a second self-portrait. The first morning a self portrait was created too, and Cathie van der Stel and myself are proud to present the results -and the différences between

Starting Thursday 2 May we will consolidate all the theory by drawing a portrait of a live model for at least 5 mornings!

NB: I am so sorry but somehow I didn't have all the before/after pictures... I will try to get them and post about them another time!

PORTRAIT Drawing! Thursday mornings 10 - 12 am

From 11 March , every Thursday morning, Cathie van der Stel and myself give a portrait workshop. We have a big group and we work very hard, because the goal is, to get all the theory across in 5 Thursday mornings. And that is working out fine!

Just to brag ☺ we show here the results of 45 minutes of hard work, where the participants had to 'draw the light' on black paper and combine that with a 'normal' drawing on white paper...

This was our model (only on picture unfortunately ☺)

Thursday 18 April we have the last theory class, from then on, we will have 2-hour sessions with live models, open to everyone interested. During these sessions, all theory will come back and be tested and consolidated... 

An evening with Abstract Landscapes

This monday evening, 10 artists participated in the abstract session. The topic at the moment is abstract landscapes. Pim has shown examples of artists such as Richard Diebenkorn and Nicolas de Stael and talked about their techniques. 

While working on the abstracts the group continuously hears Pim say - "not too realistic" or "not too nice".

Monday Abstract Classes

For the past couple of years the same group has got together on Monday evenings to do abstract paintings. Right now everyone is preparing for the big event this summer: - the exhibition ABSTRACT VIBRATIONS. Pim is the guide, teacher and master of the class. Here you see him at the end of the evening, happy with everyone's work.

During the time the group has spent together- time has been devoted to different artists and movements. Everyone seems to have their favourites. This is Michele de Laat working on her last piece - it is a "typical Michele" - everyone in the group has learned to recognize it.

Merete Frickmann has produced a lot of paintings - usually they are very Scandinavian in their colours. Monday evening she started working on a much smaller format. If you would like to see Merete's work take a look at her website: http://merete.hangarart.org

Anne Holtermann also has a very characteristic style. Pim has for quite some time tried carefully suggesting that she should try out some new colour palettes. Maybe she was influenced by the sunset on Sunday - here she is working on a pink masterpiece.

Lisbeth Petersen has also developed a characteristic style and uses earth colours. Here she is discussing with Anne how to proceed. Being able to discuss ones work with fellow artists is one of the things this group really likes about the sessions.
