Aquarelle - Tuesdays from 2 - 4.30pm with Marina Kulik

The aquarellistas are back to working hard (and smart), helped by verveine, cookies, music and just a tiny sip of pink champagne! Our theme du jour was 'beaches'! Here are some of the -excellent-  results, and notice how different the subject is represented in the results:

Carribbean hammock by Rita - our new girl! She has talent that's for sure.
It will be finished tomorrow - can't wait to see the result!

Avril started with the 'Transat' and a reflection of the clouds in the sea.
Though not at all finished, it is already super interesting!

This is such a strong piece - by Sandra. Also a beach, but a completely different take. Love it!

Brenda started the happy beach chairs with dunes in the background.
Painted in her lively and lovely style - we're looking forward to seeing it finished

This is Christiane's practice watercolour, she will make another one with the same scenery plus 2 kids climbing the fallen palmtree... Great and serious way of working! And very promising already...

This is Bev's. You may have guessed, because it really is her style. Happy chairs for everyone!!

Tricia hasn't been in France for a while - and came back with a vengeance!!! What a su-perb beach... Note that there is still a lot of masking fluid in this painting, it will look even more interesting when that is rubbed off and replaced with other colours or left white...
Liz works on a painting that is related to the beach - the marina next to it... Still lots of masking on that one, but with these colour combinations not much can go wrong, brilliant!
Superduper soda bottles by Edith (to take with you to the beach?)
A typical endeavour for Cathie: a lot of delicate robin's eggs in a very fine little basket with loads of detail... Only Cathie dares to start this - and be confident that she'll finish it too!!!

Aquarelle- Tuesdays from 2 - 4.30pm with Marina

Agnès finished her lovely beautiful cat-peeping-through-the-branches

We're a very busy group at the moment, preparing for our exhibitions, trying out new techniques, experimenting on subjects and  making a painting together. But we make sure we regularly have verveine tea, cookies, nice music, inspiration and fun so that we can keep calling it our Zen Tuesday Afternoon! And it still works...

We start this post with animals (one of our themes for the all-Hangar exhibition)

Cathie almost finished her cute puppy. So sweet!!

Christiane can't be with us so often, but when she comes, she does something really special. Here's her fragile butterfly

AMAZING seahorse by Edith!! A True watercolour, super spontaneous, done in 5 minutes...

 And also by Edith - a sweet tiny bunny...with character ♥ ♥ ♥

A new version of Sandra's drinking Zebra - looking even more subtle

Liz's village with masking fluid

...and without...

Patience is the group's experimenter, she keeps discovering properties of the aquarelle paint and finding ways to use them, combining with a fineliner this time - with a very interesting and beautiful result!

Sandra created this meaningful and symbolic painting. I see many things in it. You too?
Zoom in (click) to check it out...

And last but not least... Bev is back! and she started really well, with this painting, not yet finished, of light peeping through an old door into an old building. Gonna be stunning, mark my words!

Aquarelle - Tuesdays from 2 - 4.30pm with Marina

Cathie's old brushes on a wooden table

A lovely Tuesday, last week with the aquarellistas! On the one hand, Cathie and Liz were researching the properties of  Gauze and spraying paint, others were finishing their mandala's and the idea du jour was to create designs for our own Hangar-mugs... Those mugs will hit the shelves later! Christiane was quite far with her design of lozenges patterns for her mug:

Christiane's diamonds

Agnès's mandala: with her personal four seasons - not yet finished, I show it because it is so funny & promising - all the black dots are masking fluid - they will be white in the finished painting...

Avril painted this beautiful waterlily with reflection and decided to paint dewdrops on the leaves. They have come out a bit dark, but nothing that a little extra wash on those leaves can't help! More next week

Edith worked on a variety of subjects, and (pushed by us) also did a bit more to her mandala.
New: the snake... and to be continued

Liz's Mandala is truly amazing!! So original! Not yet decided about the background -
Dark or light, what do you think?

Spring is in the air...

Last Tuesday the weather was so fabulous, that Christiane and Anna-Karin decided to make a watercolour of spring flowers instead of our theme du jour...
Crocuses by Anna-Karin, not even finished but already fabulous!

Mimosa by Christiane - you can almost smell them...

The theme du jour by the way was 'reflection of a female figure' and most aquarellistas started with it, did good work, but not far enough to show here yet.

The one by Avril is so cool! We agreed, it has a 'fifties' atmosphere

And how about this cute little girl by Edith... A fairytale...

Start of a beauty, reflection not yet there, by Sandra

And then the Animal-section:

  Edith's cat with interesting knot

Cathie's back from SA - she warmed up with these (wooden!) fish - they look amazing - and quite real

Edith created a stunning driftwood elephant, combining the 'pattern' of drift wood with a 'real' elephant...

Agnès can't be with us at the moment - but that doesn't mean she is not watercolouring! Here's another wonderful wild animal from her hand - combined with driftwood - he's on it ☺

Crazy Faces in Aquarelle (and oil pastels)

Last Tuesday we felt like having fun - and we did! Helped by oil pastels, lots of big blobs of watercolour paint and straws, we created wild hair on funny-looking faces.Very addictive.

 Christiane's heart shaped face

Christine painted her daughters - looking forward to the holidays

The oil pastel/watercolour technique can also be used for other things than crazy hair - like this tree by Jovita!
Jovita also worked on a starters exercise - and she did it very well!

Mieke also painted bright colours, suggesting a hand... Can you see it?

Guus took the right/left-brainhalf crunch and was so confused that it took him almost the full 2 hours to get this drawing done... Water-colours next time...

Sandra finished her wild seascape. I think the orange on the top is exciting!

And Sandra finished this girl with a flowery hat, in true Sandra-style!

Tuesday 2 - 4.30 Aquarelle, with Marina

Absolutely stunning zebra-pic by Agnès.
The fact that she painted a part outside the borders makes it extra special!

The results of the Zebra project...
We've not had so many reactions in a long time, but everyone apparently likes watercolours of zebra's and other animals with interesting patterns... And all remarks and reactions came on the un-finished paintings! Here's the latest:
Agnès's next watercolour - the tiger. Again with stuff outside the borders...

Last week we finished most projects, and I am very happy with all that came out of it, most of the aquarellistas experienced the so-called left/right brainhalf  'crunch' (counting stripes versus painting wonderful colours) but persevered - and look what happened:
 Zebra by Avril
Running giraffe by Christiane, lovely patterns too!
For her granddaughter, who will love it I'm sure

Stripey Zebra by Christine. So well done!
After long deliberation she decided to remove the background. It will stay white (even those last pencil stripes will be removed). Good choice.

Costanza's colourful Zebra worked out really well!
After the zebra Elia was still in the African mood and started a giraffe

Elia's Giraffe: love the composition

Just a couple of colourful stripes- make a zebra eye! Good work and very recognizable. By Liz

Thirsty zebra by Sandra, great painting!

Penguin couple with baby by Liz

Still life with lemons by Yves
