Drawing the light

You don't want to miss this, the results of one of our Model-drawing sessions, where we just drew 'the light'...

Model Franck was 'allongé' on the table and all paricipants squinted and closed one eye, and with a white crayon drew the light instead of the dark lines... Behold the result and note that the last two (sitting pose) are made in the Model Theory class on Thursday, by starters! Amazing how much progress they have made...

The drawing class with Pim had one of the best still lives I have ever seen, Pim is SO good at building breathtaking compositons...  Thanks to Lucia there are pictures of it - and also the drawings that were made are truly excellent!

Live Model drawing - Marina Kulik - 31/01/2011

As you can see, there's deep concentration during the live model class... we had a great time last Monday, with one of our favourite models, Carolyn, who sat beautifully for 2 hours! But as always we started with a couple of quick poses - it's a good warming up and becuase there is no time to think, the drawings are always spontaneous and often surprisingly accurate!

"A classic, horizontal still life composition"

Monday morning the participants of Pim's drawing class created drawings of one of Pim's fab white still lives:

They had to use simple led pencils and not too much contrast between the subject and its background was allowed. “Morandi-style”

Drawing a live model - on Monday 13 December

Monday the 13th we got together to practice the sharp eye and hand, making drawings of Marie-Jo, one of our favourite models. And because it was the last time, we celebrated by having Marie-Jo in just one pose. So that we could work a bit longer 'to get it right'! But first as always a warming up, where we draw one- and two-minute poses... If we draw these, there is no time to think! and the ones that come out ok are usually accurate with that spontaneous extra that makes them very interesting!

The following pictures show what we saw from the circle we made around Marie-Jo, the lightfall (very sharp, fast moving sunlight that threw confusing shadows on her body) and her pose - very peaceful, but oh so hard for her to maintain...

A modern approach to a classic still life - 6 December 2010

Last Monday: deep concentration in the drawing group...

Pim had announced "a modern approach to a classic still life - work with heavy lines and overlap the objects, so that diamond shapes will appear, to give your work a strong graphical quality"  It sounded exciting - but I didn't completely get it...

The "classic still life" was beautiful enough...

However, after Pim's explanation on the blackboard it became clear what he meant with the modern graphical approach in heavy lines ! And the results - after 2 hours of hard and concentrated work were truly impressive - look for yourself:

Drawing Class - Pim de Jongh

Every other Monday morning, Pim de Jongh welcomes a group of people who want to "sharpen" their drawing skills (or keep them sharp...). Last week the challenge was to make a drawing in pencil, where the main ingredient was a bottle in the foreground - and in the drawing the picture had to be seen through the bottle - but the distortion of the image had to be done from imagination...

an exciting excercise, with great results...
