Drawing Outside with Pim on (alternating) Monday mornings

Only 2 participants for the last 'outside' session with Pim, Lucia (above) and Vicky (below) but; worthwhile! The wonderful old olive tree with a couple of autumn leaves in delicate colours.
Well done girls! And Pim a big compliment for another fantastic subject...
3 November there's a live class and 10 November Pim will build a still life in the Hangar. Highly recommended for those of you who like to draw - and want to practise observing and using all kinds of drawing materials!

A healthy Still life on Monday Morning

Knowing that a bit of fruit in the morning is good for you, Pim created this fantastic still life for the 4 participants of last Monday morning, Betty, Brenda, Lucia and Patience... And it truly inspired them as you can see below!
The challenge was to only use colour for the fruit - and leave the rest in graphite...

NB: Monday the 23d we have a live Model session, with Marie-Jo!

Drawing outside with Pim on the Monday morning

Brenda
Last Monday there were 6 participants in Pim's class - that's more like it!!
Lucia brought 2 talented friends, Michele and Valentina, and the group went to Notre Dame du Brusc to draw the vegetation in a "scribbling" way, add some colour to it, in contrast to the stone building treated in lines.

Here are the results....

Drawing with Pim on the Monday morning...

In the spring and summer, Pim takes his class out on Moday mornings, to draw in nature... Last Monday it rained unfortunately, but as you can see there was a terrific still life to compensate for it! With a challenging white-on-white... The participants worked with pencil on paper and despite the challenging perspective, they all did a great job! Check it out here:

Drawing Outside - Mondaymorning, with Pim de Jongh

Every other Monday morning, Pim takes a group outside, to draw... The same principle as the 'Hangar Spring Trip' - only shorter, and therefore also a possibility for people who cannot come along for a week...
Last time his group went to Notre Dame du Brusc, one of our favourite spots and here are two resulting drawings:

Drawing Outside on Monday mornings with Pim

Patience Devas

Every other Monday Pim takes the drawing group out to draw somewhere interesting. (If the weather is good enough - otherwise he makes sure there is one of his fabulous still lifes, with the same challenge in them)
This week the group went to the Notre Dame du Brusc - and they drew the olive trees in perspective, with on the foreground a 'springy' object. It was great, it was fun and it was healthy, and the results are impressive!

Live drawing is so good for you! Next week (the 14th of April) there is a live class with model Marie-Jo, and the 'outside' live drawing is on the 21st again... Join us if you can!

Drawing a still life - Mondays 9.30 - 12 with Pim de Jongh

Betty Schep
As every other Monday in the winter, Pim built one of his spectacular still lives (this time with white plaster objects by the look of it) and the participants then created their cubist version of it, with ink (and dark watercolours) using overlapping shapes…

Pauline Bull
As always the results were very interesting, showing graphic transparency and changing everyday objects into something very special, wonderful to look at.

Lucia Gualtieri
Again, we recommend this class for everybody who is interested in deepening  their drawing skills, learning more about how to draw shadow, light and contrasts, better understanding perspective and much much more. Apart from that, Pim is always fun to be with, the Hangar is a great space to be on a cold Monday morning (as soon as it is warmer Pim will take you outside to draw), so give it a try someday soon!!
This class alternates with the live model class, the next live model class is Monday 3 February, the next regular drawing class will take place on 10 February - you are cordially invited!!

Friday, 22 November 2013

Every other Monday Pim builds up a fabulous still life. It is always a surprise, and it is not just beautiful, there is also an idea behind it, an expression as well as a educational purpose - something to observe and learn from.
Last Monday it was a typical autumn atmosphere and the participants had to draw with pencils, showing the light/dark contrasts and the very different materials...

Strangely, this class is not very well visited. The excellent news is of course, that if you feel like joining, there is still place for you! You will get a lot of attention from Pim, and have a terrific and rewarding morning, while learning a lot, in an intuitive way, about proportions, perspective and measuring. Highly recommended!!

Drawing in Nature with Pim de Jongh

Brenda

Every other Monday, Pim de Jongh takes his drawing group on a small trip in the neighbourhood of the Hangar, for a couple of lovely hours of drawing in nature. The group uses different materials and there are all kinds of interesting themes, from perspective to lighting and contrast...

This class is just as essential as the live model class, and always very rewarding for all participants!

Last Monday the challenge du jour was "to make a drawing of nature, in pencil, with a high contrast…". The group (only 3) went to 'Notre Dame du Brusc and Drew the old olive tress with the ruins in the background. Behold the results...

Drawing - Monday 28 January - with Pim

Every other Monday morning Pim treats his students to one of his special still lifes. (Eh, that is, in the winter... as soon as the weather permits it he takes them outside to draw perspective, villages, trees, hills and ruins...)

This Monday the challenge was this. So beautiful...
And here are some of the resulting drawings: realistic, with contrasting shadows and a warm atmosphere...

DRAWING - Monday morning with Pim

Pim, hiding behind his still life...

Last Monday it was Pim's turn to give the drawing class, and he announced that the group was going to work on 'Volume and Perspective'. An interesting and certainly challenging subject! As always the still life was very much on topic and after a theoretical introduction everyone was ready to draw... Here are the results! Perspective checks out, as does the volume, suggested by dark shadows and light surfaces!

Anita Frenkel made two versions, here's number 1...
