Aquarelle Tuesday, 2 - 4.30pm, with Marina Kulik

ROSES

Last week the aquarellistas divided their time between préparations for our 50x50 expo, and one of the most interesting subjects for a watercolour: Roses...
Beverley brought this gorgeous bunch from her garden:

They looked so fantastic - and they smelled so good - the 'advanced' group couldn't help themselves and painted roses from the bunch all afternoon

Cathie's rose in progress

Mieke's practice rose

 Bev's Rose

NB:There was more excellent work - but somehow the pictures didn't work out!

The other Aquarellistas diligently followed my 'theory bit' about roses, and created the pictures on top of this post! All the same and yet so different ☺
Roses are difficult to paint - but the aquarellista group has tackeled the subject pretty well!!

Other subjects:
Liz's Still life with lemons

'Grandson' - by Brenda

'Market in Valbonne' by Wendy

Aquarelle Tuesday, 2 - 4.30pm with Marina

Our group of Aquarellistas has been working very hard the past weeks, for a couple of highlights in the near future! The first one being our next exhibition, from Monday 3 - Monday 10 June in Casablù in Valbonne (more about that in following posts!)
Despite all that hard work, there was also time last week to finish the excellent paintings which were started under the excellent guidance of Cathie! First of all - the rusty keys, by Cathie, Sandra and Sue

Secondly - the artsist's palette - still lives of painters' Tools, brushes in our case! The paintings below created by Christiane and Liz

Then there were the village-views, by Sue and Wendy

And last but not least, the flowers. By Agnès, Constanza and Sandra. To be continued in coming posts, because I will give an introduction on the 'ins and outs' of rose-painting to the starters tomorrow!

Aquarelle Tuesday 14 May 2013 with Cathie van der Stel

...working in serene concentration during Watercolour Tuesday...
You can almost hear Adèle in the background ☺

Last week's Aquarelle session was hosted by Cathie van der Stel - and as always she has done a great job bringing out everyones talent and enthusiasm - just look at the results of the day! Lots of work in progress, lots of work for our Casablu exhibition, roses, rusty keys and last but not least, the inspiring Subject Du Jour  'the artist palette' (paint the tools that artists use in watercolours... )

Liz' Artist palette - using a Trevanian style for the background

Christiane's work in progress...

Above and below Anna-Karin's subtle flowers

Agnès' Bubble Boy

The roses in the Hangar are starting to bloom - more inspiration there! Edith and Sandra painted them, both absolutely stunning!

Edith's passionate rose

Sandra's three stages of (a rose's) life

Also by Sandra: 'Rusty Keys'

More Rusty Keys: by Sue

Sue is an amazing dog painter! Consistent quality - love this pup!

Wendy started with a challenge, this painting of the famous Church of Valbonne.
Work in progress - a great start and I can't wait to see the final aquarelle!!

Aquarelle Tuesdays, 2 - 4.30pm with Marina Kulik

Spring is in the air!

Below a couple of paintings created last Tuesday...
My computer urgently needs a doctor but these pictures make me so proud, I wanted to post them first !
They are full of character, style - and spring...

Aquarellista Bibi Isaksson (now living in Sweden) visited and worked with us - we all agreed it was fantastic to see her again, she hadn't changed one bit and she is still a very good painter!

Aquarelle Tuesdays 2 - 4.30 pm with Marina Kulik

The Hangar SPRING FAYRE
Coming Sunday, 21 April, the Hangar organizes another Spring Fayre, this time it will take place in 'The Grange' in Mouans Sartoux (close to Botanic and Casino, follow the signs)
It is going to be great fun, with lots of things for sale, to eat and drink, and of course, ART!
Entrance fee (to cover the rent of the Grange) is 6€ - children free, and you get one free tombola ticket!

You can buy tickets (5€) for artworks, created by the Hangar Artists. If you're in love with a painting you can buy that directly, it will cost you 25€. Some of the best paintings are made by the Aquarellistas! They have painted their work on heavy Arches watercolour paper, and if you can lay your hands on one of their works you are so lucky, because it is GOOD...
You can look forward to seeing these... and more...

Agnes

Cathie (work in progress...)

Anna-Karin

 Liz

Edith

Sue

The exact address of the Spring Fayre is:
The Grange
815 chemin des Gourettes

Preview of the Spring Fayre watercolours...

On Sunday 21 April the Hangar Spring Fayre will take place - in 'the Grange' in Mouans Sartoux...
Lots of interesting items for sale there, all for the better of the Hangar. The Hangar artists are all creating artwork for this occasion, that you can purchase for utterly competitive prices! Of course the Aquarellistas participate, 3 of them have already finished their work (on heavy quality Arches torchon paper). Here's a preview:

Sue takes you to the roaring twenties with this beach-view

Edith chose a classic yacht on the Med as her subject

Anna-Karin painted these teasels with a beautiful light - and her specific touch

And more sneak previews below, for another occasion with real artwork for interesting pirces: From June 3 until June 10, the Aquarellistas will show 50 original watercolours in Gallery Casablù in Valbonne. These paintings will all be framed exactly the same and all cost 50€. We will work on them in the Hangar and in our own time, and I will regularly show examples on this blog.
If you see a painting that you really like you can reserve it!! And of course more news and invitations will follow...

Not everybody has officially started. Christiane has spent the whole afternoon researching the look and feel of a centennial olive tree in a lavender field... Very good! Very Aquarellista!

Pebbles by Anna-Karin. Not finished, but already so great looking!

A completely different view on 'Teasels' by Sandra. I love it!!

More work in progress by Sandra...

...and by Sue...

Look forward to much more of this in the coming weeks!!
And mark your agendas: 3 - 10 June, Casablù, Valbonne...

Aquarelle, Tuesdays 2 - 4.30pm with Marina

Working like Shirley Trevena:
Breaking the Rules... Part III

Liz's perfect composition
with lots of candle wax and watercolour crayon

And here are the aquarelles we finished during the third and final 'Working like Shirley Trevena' painting session. Where we usually work pretty 'neat', we changed that completely these last 3 weeks. We used a still life as inspiration for a composition on the paper, we used watercolour brushes but also tooth-and nail brushes, as well as sponges, kitchenpaper, plumes, feathers, our nails and more... and apart from a diversity of watercolour paints, there were candles, crayons, watercolourpencils (also in combination with sanding paper, to give very interesting stains!)...
I can write for hours about this, because it was such fun - and we learnt so much!! You can probably see that from the paintings in this post...

Cathie created an incredible depth in her composition

Christiane's painting has become incredibly warm and happy

Edith's excellent composition

Anna-Karin's almost-finished version with stunning tulips

Sue, who's new to our group did an amazing job!
Note the background and the use of warm and cold colours

This fantastic composition was created by Sandra

Agnès - who introduced Shirley to us, missed the previous 2 sessions and decided she would go 'realistic' and she did!! A very sunny still life with great shadows

As you can see, everyone worked way out of their comfort zone, yet the personal styles are still recognisable!

Marina's - unfinished, but already lots of pleasure have gone into this, and my hands have never been dirtier...
